CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -Miami linebacker Glenn Cook may miss the first month of the regular season with an injured foot, and safety Lovon Ponder is also sidelined indefinitely with an undisclosed injury.
Hurricanes coach Randy Shannon said Thursday that Ponder is expected to be able to play in the Sept. 1 opener against Marshall. But Cook – who started 11 games last season and is one of Miami’s two most experienced linebackers – will miss at least the first three games this year, and Shannon said the senior may be facing surgery.
Shannon did not offer specifics on the injuries, which apparently happened this week. Miami opened training camp last Saturday and has practiced daily since.
Cook had 64 tackles and seven quarterback pressures last season for Miami. Ponder made 53 tackles and threw one touchdown pass in his only appearance on offense.
