COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – South Carolina tailback Mike Davis knows the NFL is on the horizon. First, though, is the chance to improve on one of the best rushing seasons in Gamecock history.
Davis finished with 1,183 yards last fall, the fourth-best total in South Carolina history and trailing only two seasons by Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers and one by team great Marcus Lattimore.
Davis got a chuckle last week when he heard coach Steve Spurrier said he’d urge the running back to leave early if he had a similarly big year. Davis says he’s focused on what he can accomplish to help the Gamecocks to another big season.
Davis ran for at least 100 yards in seven of South Carolina’s first nine games to help the Gamecocks finish 11-2.
