BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) – Virginia Tech missed out on the top players from Virginia this year, but coach Frank Beamer and his staff still added 28 players on national signing day.
The Hokies got letters of intent from 22 players, and they joined four players that enrolled in January and two who signed with Virginia Tech last year, then spent a year in prep school.
The class includes 15 players from inside Virginia, always a priority for Beamer, and 17 players projected to play offense. Four are offensive linemen, a Hokies need, and 12 are skill players.
Beamer says it’s disappointing to miss on players, but held the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks up as proof that the top picks don’t always win. Several of the Seahawks top players were late-round draft choices.
