RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) North Carolina State redshirt senior quarterback Jalan McClendon will play elsewhere next season as a graduate transfer.
The school announced McClendon’s decision Monday. He is scheduled to graduate in May and has a year of eligibility remaining.
McClendon was in position to inherit the starting job when Jacoby Brissett headed to the NFL after the 2015 season. But Boise State graduate transfer Ryan Finley arrived with experience in new coordinator Eli Drinkwitz’s system and won the starting job for 2016.
McClendon has been Finley’s backup ever since, throwing just three passes last season. Finley recently announced he’s returning for his final season instead of entering the NFL draft.
In a statement, McClendon said he ”enjoyed every bit of this university.”
