Georgia State backing into bowl game
Georgia State ended the season on a low note, dropping three of their last four games as well. That includes a 38-10 loss at Georgia Southern in the season finale. The Panthers are 7-5 on the season, 6-4-2 against the spread and 6-6 with the over/under total.
The Panthers have a very potent offense, averaging 32.4 points and 446.9 yards per game thanks to a strong rushing attack that averages 245.2 yards per game. Defensively, Georgia Southern has been a mess. They are giving up 36.1 points and 450.8 yards per contest. Dan Ellington is leading the offense with 2,291 passing yards and 21 touchdowns, while rushing for 598 yards and five scores. Tra Barnett is adding 1,389 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Cornelius McCoy is adding 65 receptions for 679 yards and four touchdowns.
Wyoming struggles down the stretch
Like Georgia State, Wyoming lost three of its last four games to end the regular season, including a 20-6 loss at Air Force in the season finale. The Cowboys are 7-5 on the season, 7-5 against the spread and 9-3 with the under.
The Cowboys are struggling on offense this year. They are putting up just 24.3 points and 336.7 yards per game. Defensively, Wyoming is giving up just 17.8 points and 366.7 yards per contest. Their rush defense is one of the best in the nation, allowing only 101.6 yards per game. Xazavian Valladay is leading the offense with 1,061 rushing yards and five touchdowns. QB Sean Chambers had thrown for 915 yards and seven scores while rushing for 567 yards and 10 touchdowns, but he is out for the game with an injury. Tyler Vander Waal is also questionable. He has thrown or 512 yards and a TD. The defense is led by Logan Wilson, who has 98 tackles and four interceptions.
College Football Betting Trends
The Panthers are 2-8-2 against the spread in their last 12 games against a winning team and 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss.
The Cowboys are 4-1 against the spread in their last five bowl games and 8-1 ATS in their last nine against Sun Belt Conference opponents.
These two are both with seven wins, but I feel like Wyoming has the better schedule of opponents and is the better team here. While the Cowboys aren’t much for offense, their defense is pretty stout and should hold up against a Georgia State offense that has good numbers but hasn’t been terribly tested. The Georgia State defense also isn’t reliable, which could open the door for Wyoming to see an increase in offensive production.
Arizona Bowl Prediction: Wyoming -7
