Utah coming off loss
Utah had an 8-game win streak come to an end in its Pac-12 Championship Game against Oregon. The Utes lost 37-15. Utah is 11-2 on the season, 9-4 against the spread and 8-4-1 with the under.
The Utes were a dominant defense this season, ranking in the top 6 nationally. Utah allowed just 13.2 points and 256.4 yards per game this year, including a nation-leading 70.5 rushing yards per game. Offensively, Utah is putting up 34 points and 442.5 yards per contest. Tyler Huntley is leading Utah with 2,966 passing yards and 18 touchdowns while also rushing for 257 yards and five touchdowns. Zack Moss is the leading rusher with 1,359 yards and 15 touchdowns. Bradlee Anae is leading the defense with 35 tackles and 12.5 sacks.
Longhorns couldn’t get on track
Texas was never able to find much consistency throughout the season. The Longhorns were just 4-4 over their last eight games and are coming off a 49-24 win over Texas Tech in its season finale. Texas is 7-5 on the season, 6-6 against the spread and 7-5 with the over.
The Longhorns struggled on defense throughout the season, giving up 28.9 points and 446.3 yards per game. They allowed over 300 passing yards per game. Offensively, Texas is putting up 35.0 points and 468.8 yards per game, which ranks top 20 nationally. Sam Ehlinger is leading Texas with 3,462 yards and 29 touchdowns passing while also rushing for 590 yards and six scores. Keaontay Ingram is the team’s leading rusher with 745 yards and six touchdowns. He is questionable for this game with an ankle injury. Devin Duvernay is the leading receiver with 103 catches for 1,294 yards and eight touchdowns, but he is questionable with a shoulder injury.
College Football Betting Trends
Utah
The Utes are 5-2 with the under in their last seven games on grass, but 3-1-1 with the over in their last five games as a favorite.
Texas
The Longhorns have hit the under in four straight bowl games and in six straight games in December.
Prediction:
Texas certainly has a lot of breakout potential, but the Longhorns are struggling with injuries coming in and they had trouble with strong defensive teams. Texas was held to 10 points by Baylor and 21 by Iowa State. Utah should come in pretty motivated on defense after the letdown against Oregon. I think the Utes will be the team to dictate the style of play and be able to hit the under in this game.
