Fighting Irish rolling

Notre Dame is riding a five-game win streak coming into this bowl game. The Irish have won their last four by at least 21 points. ND is 10-2 on the season, 8-4 against the spread and 7-5 with the under.

The Irish are solid on both sides of the ball, putting up 37.1 points and 429.2 yards per game on offense. Defensively, Notre Dame is giving up just 18.7 points and 324.3 yards per contest. Ian Book is leading the team with 2,787 yards and 33 touchdowns. Tony Jones Jr. is the team’s leading rusher with 722 yards and five touchdowns, while Chase Claypool is the top receiver with 59 catches for 891 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Cyclones struggle for consistency

Iowa State has had some highs and lows this season, but the Cyclones have lost three of their last five games coming into this bowl game. Iowa State is 7-5 on the season, 5-6-1 against the spread and 6-5-1 with the under.

The Cyclones are putting up 34.1 points and 458.7 yards per game on offense this season, while allowing 25.3 points and 362.2 yards per contest on defense. Brock Purdy is leading the ISU offense with 3,760 yards and 27 touchdowns, while also rushing for 265 yards and eight touchdowns. Deshaunte Jones is leading the receivers with 72 catches for 832 yards and two scores. Breece Hall is the top rusher with 842 yards and nine touchdowns.

College Football Betting Trends

Notre Dame

The Fighting Irish are 5-1 with the under in their last six games on a neutral field and 5-2 with the under in their last seven games as a favorite.

Iowa State

The Cyclones are 6-0-1 with the under in their last seven bowl games and 7-0-1 with the under in their last eight neutral-site games.

The trends support the under so that is the direction I am going. Notre Dame has a great defense that has turned the corner over the last month of the season. Iowa State has some talent on offense, but the Cyclones don’t face a lot of great defenses in the Big 12. I don’t think the Fighting Irish are going to be able to march all over the Iowa State defense either. I think the story of the game is going to be the ND defense, which will lead to the under hitting on Saturday.
