This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NCAAF Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Red Wolves coming off loss
Arkansas State had a four-game win streak come to an end in the regular season finale, suffering a 34-30 loss at South Alabama. The Red Wolves are 7-5 on the season, 5-7 against the spread and 7-5 with the over.
The Red Wolves have a pretty potent offense, but a defense that has struggled. Arkansas State is putting up 33.7 points and 432.2 yards per game, while the defense is allowing 34.8 points and 480.6 yards per contest. Layne Hatcher started the year as a backup QB, but has thrown for 2,553 yards and 23 touchdowns. Omar Bayless is the team’s top receiver with 84 catches for 1,473 yards and 16 touchdowns. Marcel Murray has led the ground attack with 782 yards and six scores.
FIU never able to get on track
Florida International has alternated wins and losses over its last six games and is coming off a 30-27 OT loss at Marshall to end the regular season. FIU is 6-6 on the season, 4-8 against the spread and 6-6 with the over/under total.
The Panthers are average on both sides of the ball. The FIU offense is averaging 26.5 points and 371.5 yards per game, while the defense is giving up 26.7 points and 379.8 yards per contest. FIU is led by James Morgan, who has thrown for 2,248 yards and 13 touchdowns. Anthony Jones is the team’s top rusher with 802 yards and nine touchdowns, while Napoleon Maxwell has 609 rushing yards and eight scores. Tony Gaiter IV is the leading receiver with 49 catches for 607 yards and four touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
The Red Wolves are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games on a neutral field and 1-4 ATS in their last five bowl games.
The Golden Panthers are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine against a winning team and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games as an underdog.
I think this game could be a grind and that’s the way that FIU will need it to go in order to win. That doesn’t mean that I think the Golden Panthers will win. I think both teams will play well defensively, but ultimately Arkansas State has a very explosive offense that should be able to break plays more consistently. In a tight game, one that comes down to the wire, an explosive passing attack is going to be able to create something when the play calling gets more aggressive and desperate. I think Arkansas State makes the big plays down the stretch to find a way past FIU.
Camellia Bowl Prediction: Arkansas State -1.5
