Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, Georgia Southern is a 3-point favorite to beat Eastern Michigan. The total, meanwhile, sits at 45 points. As of this writing, 61% of the public betting tickets wagered on this matchup are on Georgia Southern.
Georgia Southern Eagles
Georgia Southern redshirt sophomore QB Shai Werts completed 8-of-11 passes for 105 yards with two touchdowns and ran for 75 yards and a score in a 35-14 victory over Georgia State on Saturday. Efficient. That’s what Werts has been all season, and Saturday was not an exception to that in the easy victory. The dual-threat quarterback didn’t throw an interception all season, and the 5-foot-11, 200-pound signal-caller finishes the regular season with 13 rushing touchdowns. He’s one of the best option quarterbacks in the country, and he’ll get a chance to pick up a 10th win in a bowl game next month.
Eastern Michigan Eagles
Eastern Michigan senior QB Tyler Wiegers completed 13-of-26 passes for 139 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Friday’s 28-20 win at Kent State. The offensive equation was rather simple in this one – hand off to Ian Eriksen and let him mash the Falcons defense. The senior hasn’t had a 300-yard performance since Sept. 8 at Purdue, and he has gone over 200 yards just twice in part of the past 10 outings. The good news is Wiegers hasn’t made a lot of mistakes, either, tossing just three interceptions on 264 attempts. He’ll try and stay mistake-free into the team’s bowl appearance next month.
Betting Trends
Georgia Southern
The over is 5-1 in the Eagles’ last six games overall but the under is 13-3 in their last 16 games coming off a win of more than 20 points.
Eastern Michigan
The under is 7-2 in the Eagles’ last nine games overall and 8-3 in their last 11 non-conference matchups.
Prediction
Eastern Michigan has been a solid play at the betting window, covering in 24 of its last 35 games overall. EMU is also 14-3 against the number in their last 17 non-conference games, is 14-5 ATS in its last 19 games versus an opponent with a winning record and 10-1 at the betting window in its last 11 games coming off an ATS loss. Even though this game went from a pick’em up to the current three-point spread, I’m going to fade the line movement and back the dog.
