Alabama vs. LSU Prediction

Alabama vs. LSU, 12/5/20 College Football Week 14 Predictions

The Alabama-LSU rivalry will be renewed on Saturday night in Baton Rouge where the Tigers will host the No. 1 Crimson Tide at 8:00 p.m. ET. Is 29 points too much to lay with the Tide or will the Tigers cover as huge home dogs?

Game Snapshot

441 Alabama Crimson Tide (-29) at 442 LSU Tigers (+29); o/u 65.5

Alabama Crimson Tide Game Notes

Alabama redshirt sophomore QB Mac Jones completed 18-of-26 passes for 302 yards and five touchdowns in Saturday's 42-13 victory over Auburn. Jones (6'3/214) averaged 11.6 YPA and didn't turn the ball over in a performance that will increase Heisman chatter in the coming week. He and the Tide offense came out firing, scoring touchdowns on three of their first four possessions to race out to a 21-3 lead in the second quarter. Jones becomes only the second quarterback in Alabama history to throw for five touchdown passes in an Iron Bowl game, along with his precursor Tua Tagovailoa. Alabama moved to 8-0, with all eight wins coming by 17 or more points, despite the absence of HC Nick Saban, isolating with a positive COVID-19 test. OC Steve Sarkisian handled head coaching duties for the Tide today, with the offense looking as aggressive and fearsome as ever. Alabama closes out the regular season with LSU next week.

LSU Tigers Game Notes

LSU freshman QB T.J. Finley will start against Alabama on Saturday. Finley (6'6/242) was positively dreadful in last Saturday's 20-7 loss to Texas A&M, completing just 9-of-25 passes for 118 yards with two interceptions. He switched off with fellow freshman Max Johnson, as neither of them were particularly effective. At one point HC Ed Orgeron was seen excoriating his starter following an ill-timed interception, leading to the substitution. Fortunately for him, Johnson wasn't any better which accounts for the freshman being named the starter this Saturday against Alabama. Finley will have a very short leash should he get off to a slow start.

Alabama vs. LSU Betting Prediction

I’m not touching this spread. LSU is completely overmatched but I doubt the Tigers concede anything to Alabama. I see more value in the total. The under is 6-0 in the last six meetings between these two teams in Baton Rouge and is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams overall. The under is also 3-1-1 in the Crimson Tide’s last five games played in the month of December and is 12-5 in the Tigers’ last 17 games as an underdog. I just don’t see how LSU contributes enough points to push the combined score over the total tonight in Baton Rouge.
