Cavs playing in first title game
Virginia finds itself in its first ACC Championship Game thanks to ending a 15-game losing streak to Virginia Tech last weekend in a 39-30 win at home. UVA comes into this game 9-3 overall, 6-2 in the ACC, 6-5-1 against the spread and 8-4 with the over.
The Cavaliers have been pretty strong on defense this season, allowing just 23.5 points and 336.5 yards per game. Offensively, UVA is putting up 33.7 points and 390.3 yards per contest. Quarterback Bryce Perkins has been very valuable to the team. He has thrown for 2,949 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for 687 yards and 11 scores. Wayne Taulapapa has added 416 rushing yards and 12 scores while Hasise Dubois is the top receiver with 55 catches for 849 yards and three scores. The defense is being led by Zane Zandier, who has 85 tackles, five sacks and one interception.
Clemson remains dominant
Clemson continued its perfect season last weekend with a 38-3 win at South Carolina. The Tigers have won all 12 games this season and all eight in the ACC. They have won their last seven by at least 31 points. Clemson is 9-3 against the spread this year and 7-5 with the under.
The Tigers have been dominant on both sides of the ball this season. The defense is giving up only 10.1 points and 232.8 yards per game. Isaiah Simmons is leading the defense with 84 tackles, six sacks and one interception. Offensively, Clemson is putting up 45.3 points and 541.8 yards per contest. Trevor Lawrence has thrown for 2,870 yards and 30 touchdowns while Travis Etienne has rushed for 1,386 yards and 16 scores. Tee Higgins is the team’s top receiver with 43 catches for 900 yards and 10 touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Virginia
The Cavaliers have hit the over in five of their last six on a neutral field and in four of their last five conference games.
Clemson
The Tigers have hit the under in eight of their last 11 conference games and in four of their last five on a neutral field.
Prediction:
These two haven’t met in six years, hitting the over in their last two meetings. There’s no doubt that Clemson is likely to score points in this game. The question is, how many points will Virginia put up? The Cavs have been clicking on offense, scoring at least 33 points in four straight, however they struggled mightily against a strong defensive team like Miami. Clemson is even better defensively than that. The Tigers have been riding the chip on their shoulder for weeks now and seem out to make statements. I think their defense could possibly pitch a shutout in this game. Because of the Clemson defense, I don’t think the over will hit here. Clemson isn’t going to put up 56 on its own.
ACC Championship Prediction: Virginia/Clemson Under 55.5
