Texas vs. Baylor Free Pick
After losing to TCU in a monsoon last week, the Baylor Bears will take out some frustration today when they host the Texas Longhorns at 12:00PM ET.
It’s tough to know what the motivation will be like for Art Briles’ team today. With their playoff hopes dashed, will the Bears be motivated to embarrassing the Longhorns or will they sleepwalk through this one and allow Texas to cover easily as a heavy underdog?
I’d lay the points. Texas coach Charlie Strong said earlier this week that Tyrone Swoopes will start at quarterback today as Jerrod Heard recovers from a concussion. At times, Swoopes and Heard have formed a dynamic 1-2 punch for the Longhorns, but Swoopes (386 yards, 3 TDs) can’t beat teams with his arm.
Chris Johnson will make his second start for Baylor after nearly leading the Bears to a win in Fort Worth last Friday night. Johnson didn’t post great numbers in the loss to TCU but that’s also because the weather severely limited both teams’ offensive output. Coupled with the nation’s fourth-best rushing attack, Johnson should move the ball plenty against a Texas defense that ranks 102nd in the nation while allowing 203.2 yards per game.
Motivation is difficult to predict. But assuming Baylor will want to run it up versus its in-state rival, this should be a blowout. Take the Bears, who are 21-point home favorite over the Longhorns according to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI.
