SEC Title Game Line Movement
The point spread in the SEC Championship Game today between Alabama and Florida has climbed nearly three full points from the original number.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Crimson Tide is now a 24-point favorite versus the Gators for the SEC title game today at 4:00PM ET. Alabama originally opened as a 21.5-point favorite but almost immediately sports books online and Vegas had to adjust with a flood of money coming in on the Crimson Tide. After the initial movement, the line has seemingly settled in at 24 because it hasn't moved in days.
As for the over/under, the original number was 40 and after briefly moving to 40.5 and then to 41, the total has settled in at 40.5 over the past 48 hours. Despite the defensive abilities of both teams over the years, the over has actually cashed in four of the last five meetings between these two teams. The under, however, is 4-1 in Alabama's last five games and is 5-0 in Florida's last five games.
Public bettors seem to be struggling with which team to back today now that the number has settled in at 24. Only 53% of public bettors are backing Alabama and laying the 24 points.
The struggle for bettors is whether or not to back Florida despite receiving three full touchdowns and a field goal from oddsmakers. The Gators often play well defensively, but their offense ranks 88th out of 128 FBS schools this season in offensive efficiency. By contrast, the Gators are fifth in the FBS in defensive efficinecy. They have gotten pressure on opposing signal-callers on 38 percent of dropbacks this season, which is the second-highest rate in the Power 5 behind Michigan.
