Tennessee Volunteers Game Notes
Hendon Hooker suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during Saturday’s 63-38 loss to South Carolina, Patrick Brown of 247Sports.com reports. Hooker exited after going down with a non-contact left knee injury in the fourth quarter. After undergoing further evaluation Sunday, Hooker was diagnosed with the season-ending injury, which effectively ends his his collegiate career. Hooker finishes his second season as the Volunteers’ starting quarterback with 3,135 passing yards and a 27:2 TD:INT to go with 430 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Before sustaining the injury, Hooker looked to be a strong contender to be a Heisman Trophy finalist, but the fact that he’ll miss the Nov. 26 regular-season finale against Vanderbilt may be enough to remove him from consideration. In his stead, Joe Milton will presumably take over as the starting quarterback for the Week 13 game as well as an eventual bowl game.
Vanderbilt Commanders Game Notes
Mike Wright completed 10-of-16 throws for 108 yards, three touchdowns and one pick Saturday against Florida. Wright led the Commodores to their second-straight SEC victory. He has thrown at least one touchdown pass in each of the last four games. Vandy will look to gain bowl eligibility for the first time since 2018 against mighty Tennessee next weekend.
