Iowa Hawkeyes Game Notes

Iowa sophomore QB Alex Padilla is listed atop the team's depth chart ahead of Friday's regular season finale against Nebraska. Padilla (6'1/197) has started the last two games for Iowa, leading them to a 2-0 record while throwing for 289 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the process. He has also rushed for a touchdown in those starts, but has largely been a game manager flourishing behind a productive ground game led by running back Tyler Goodson. Goodson has handled 45 rush attempts over the last two weeks, going for 191 yards. Padilla has a chance to push his starting record to 3-0 on Friday with a win over Nebraska (3-8).

Nebraska Cornhuskers Game Notes

Nebraska redshirt junior QB Adrian Martinez (shoulder) is having surgery this Wednesday. Martinez (6'2'212) was hurt in the first half last week against Wisconsin, but was able to play through it and finish the game, which was yet another close loss by the Cornhuskers. It has now been confirmed that the injury will cost him the season finale against Iowa. Head coach Scott Frost originally said the extent of the injury wasn't known until they could do further tests when they returned home, however it's now been deemed serious enough to require immediate surgery. Martinez has one more year of eligibility left, with HC Frost said he will talk to his QB about his intentions for 2022, but indicated “I don’t think that decision will take too long.”

Iowa vs. Nebraska Betting Prediction

The road team has covered in six of the last eight meetings between these two teams, while the Hawkeyes are 4-1-1 against the spread in their lats six games as an underdog. The Huskers, meanwhile, are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games versus an opponent with a winning road record and are just 3-8 at the betting window in their last 11 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous contest.
