Hokies on a roll
Virginia Tech is on a three-game win streak following a 28-0 win at home over Pittsburgh last weekend. The Hokies haven’t allowed a point in their last two games. Tech is now 8-3 on the season, 5-2 in the ACC and 6-5 against the spread.
After some struggles early, Virginia Tech has been able to lock in defensively as of late. The Hokies are giving up 22.3 points and 348.5 yards per game this season. Rayshard Ashby is leading the defense with 98 tackles and 4.5 sacks. Offensively, Virginia Tech is putting up 31 points and 381.8 yards per game. Hendon Hooker has taken over as starting QB. He has 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on the year, while also rushing for 262 yards and four scores. Deshawn McClease is the team’s leading rusher with 631 yards and five scores, while Tre Turner is the top receiver with 26 catches for 408 yards and three touchdowns.
UVA wants division title
Virginia has never reached the ACC Championship Game, but the Cavs are a win at home away from getting there. UVA has won its last three games, including a 55-27 win over Liberty last weekend. The Cavs are 8-3 on the season, 5-2 in the ACC, 5-5-1 against the spread and 7-4 with the over.
Virginia has been led by its defense this year as well. The Cavs are giving up just 22.9 points and 325.1 yards per contest. Jordan Mack is leading the defense with 63 tackles and 7.5 sacks. Offensively, Virginia is putting up 33.2 points and 381 yards per game. Bryce Perkins is leading UVA this year with 2,638 passing yards and 15 touchdowns. He also is the leading rusher with 523 yards and nine scores. Wayne Taulapapa has rushed for 399 yards and 11 touchdowns as well. Hasise Dubois has 51 catches for 710 yards and three touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Virginia Tech
The Hokies have hit the under in four straight games overall and in five straight following a cover.
Virginia
Virginia has hit the over in six straight games in November and in six of its last eight following a win.
Prediction:
These two have alternated with the over/under in their last six meetings, hitting the under in four straight meetings at Virginia. With a division title on the line and both defenses the strength, I expect this to be a hard-hitting defensive war. Both quarterbacks like to run the ball and I think that will be difficult against these defensive fronts. Virginia seems to have the better passing game, but the Hokies are locked in in the secondary right now. I think points will be hard to come by and both could find themselves under 20 points.
