Oregon Ducks
NFL Draft Scout’s Steve Fairchild believes that Oregon junior QB Justin Herbert offers “big” upside as an NFL quarterback. Fairchild gives a nice scouting report on the Oregon gunslinger, noting in his pros that Herbert (6’6/233) has a strong, accurate arm, and when he sits his feet, he delivers a very catchable ball. He does not some negatives, however. “He does not display a lot of throws where he works a progression, rather he locks on to primary throws or half-field reads,” Fairchild writes. “His accuracy diminishes when he has to throw off platform or with radical pocket movement.” The overall takeaways here are positive, but there are concerns here that suggest that Herbert may not be a sure thing. Not yet, anyway.
Oregon State Beavers
Oregon State redshirt senior QB Conor Blount (concussion) has passed concussion protocol tests and will practice this week as the team prepares for its November 10 game against Stanford. Oregon State HC Jonathan Smith said Monday that Blount cleared concussion protocol ahead of the team’s Nov. 3 game against USC and would have been available if needed. With the redshirt senior given a clean bill of health, Oregon State has a decision to make regarding the spot on the depth chart behind starter Jake Luton. Jack Colletto, Oregon State’s most mobile quarterback, started the Oct. 27 win over Colorado and served as Luton’s backup in the loss to USC.
