The Odds
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Utes opened as 3-point home favorites over the Bruins but the game is now a pick’em. As for the total, it opened at 58.5 before dropping two full points down to 56.5.
The Records
UCLA enters play with a 7-3 straight up record but hasn’t been profitable at the betting window, going just 4-5-1 against the spread in those 10 games. As for Utah, the Utes are 8-2 straight up and 5-5 against the number. While the under has cashed in seven of the Bruins’ 10 games this season, the over is 6-4 in the Utes’ 10 contests.
The Pick
Both of these teams are coming off gut-wrenching losses in Week 11 and Utah will be without standout running back Devontae Booker, who will miss the rest of the regular season after undergoing knee surgery. With Booker out, the temptation is to take the Bruins, who boast one of the top young quarterbacks in the nation in freshman Josh Rosen. That said, I see the motivation playing out differently for both teams. I see UCLA playing listless on the road under Jim Mora, while I see Utah playing inspired under Kyle Whittingham, who should put together a great defensive game plan to slow Rosen. Plus, I trust Utah’s defense to have a shot at slowing down UCLA better than I like the Bruins’ banged up defense to come up with a key stop, even with the Utes being without Booker.
