Iowa State Cyclones Game Notes
Iowa State junior RB Breece Hall rushed 18 times for 51 yards and two touchdowns, while catching three passes for 25 yards and a receiving touchdown in a 41-38 loss to Texas Tech on Saturday. Hall (6’1/220) was bottled up by the beleaguered Texas Tech defense that was allowing 6.5 yards per play heading into the contest, holding the All-American to his lowest rushing total of the year. His day wasn’t without some highlights, as Hall broke out a nifty spin move on his 17-yard touchdown rush in addition to also punching in a one-yard goal line score. Though he had trouble breaking free for many big plays outside of his first touchdown run, Hall displayed his incredible athleticism by breaking multiple tackles on a 14-yard scoring reception to bring Iowa State within three points late in the fourth quarter.
Oklahoma Sooners Game Notes
Oklahoma freshman QB Caleb Williams went 10-of-19 for 146 yards and two interceptions and was briefly removed for Spencer Rattler in Saturday’s 27-14 loss to Baylor. Late in the third quarter, following a drive that ended with an Oklahoma punt on 4th & 40, HC Lincoln Riley removed Williams (at the time he was 8-of-17 for 84 yards and two interceptions) for Spencer Rattler. Rattler ended up directing two listless drives that ended in punts. On OU’s final possession, Williams returned to the field and directed a late touchdown drive. Up until his benching, Williams struggled mightily in the pocket, taking sacks, making poor decisions, and missing a few open targets. Baylor’s stingy run defense also bottled Williams up for 17 yards rushing and a two-yard scoring plunge that OU a 7-0 lead — the only lead it enjoyed all game. The 9-1 Sooners must rebound quickly with a home date against Iowa State next week.
