According to the latest oddsmakers, Ohio State is favored on the road, as the Buckeyes are getting odds of -52.5 points against Rutgers. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 61.5 points. The public betting currently has 77 percent going on Ohio State as the heavy road favorite. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NCAAF Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Rutgers not competitive
Rutgers is coming off a 38-10 loss at Illinois last weekend. The Knights have scored 10 points or less in every Big Ten game this year. The Knights are just 2-7 on the season, 0-6 in the Big Ten, 2-7 against the spread and 5-4 with the under.
The Knights are among the worst nationally in both offense and defense. Rutgers is giving up 36.7 points and 430.7 yards per game on defense, while the offense is putting up just 14.7 points and 280.6 yards per contest. Isaih Pacheco is leading the offense with 541 rushing yards and six touchdowns, but he is listed as questionable for this game with a foot injury. Freshman Johnny Langan has thrown for 498 yards and three touchdowns, but has six interceptions. Bo Melton is the leading receiver with 23 catches for 312 yards and a score.
Ohio State continues to dominate
Ohio State continued its 2019 beatdown tour last weekend with a 73-14 victory over Maryland at home. The Buckeyes are now 9-0 on the season, 6-0 in the Big Ten, 8-1 against the spread and 4-4-1 with the over/under total.
The Buckeyes have the nation’s top defense, allowing just 8.6 points and 215.2 yards per contest. The Ohio State defense continues to be without its top player in Chase Young, who has 13.5 sacks this year. Young is dealing with a suspension right now for taking a loan and will sit out this game. Offensively, Ohio State is putting up 51 points and 536.2 yards per game. The Buckeyes lead the nation in scoring while ranking third in rushing with 295.6 yards per game. J.K. Dobbins is leading the ground attack with 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns. Master Teague III is adding 699 yards and four scores while Justin Fields has rushed for 347 yards and 10 touchdowns. Fields has also thrown for 1,859 yards and 27 touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
The Knights are just 1-5 against the spread in their last six following a loss and 0-6 ATS in their last six conference games.
The Buckeyes have covered in eight straight conference games and in 11 straight games following a win.
Ohio State hasn’t met a spread in this series it can’t cover. Ohio State has covered in all five Big Ten meetings with Rutgers, winning by 56 in two of them. The Buckeyes are steamrolling everyone, even with their backups. Rutgers has no way to be competitive or to stop Ohio State from doing what it wants. Can the Knights find some pity points late to cover? Possibly. However, I think the Ohio State defense can shut out the Knights with their backups backups.
College Football Week 12 Prediction: Ohio State -52.5
