Houston can’t get on track
The Houston football team is coming off a 44-29 loss at UCF two weeks ago for a second straight loss and a third loss in four games. The Cougars are now 3-6 on the season, 1-4 in the AAC, 5-4 against the spread and 4-4-1 with the over/under total
Houston has struggled defensively this year, allowing 32.6 points and 460.6 yards per contest. Offensively, the Cougars are putting up 30.7 points and 410.8 yards per contest. Clayton Tune has thrown for 894 yards and six touchdowns to lead the offense while Kyle Porter has rushed for 525 yards and three scores. Marquez Stevenson is the leading receiver with 36 catches for 666 yards and six touchdowns.
Memphis heating up
The Memphis football team is riding a three-game win streak following the 54-48 win over SMU at home two weeks ago. The Tigers remain in the AAC chase as they are 8-1 overall, 4-1 in conference play, 6-3 against the spread and 7-2 with the over.
The Tigers have one of the stronger offenses in the nation, as they are averaging 41.1 points and 475.4 yards per game. Defensively, Memphis is giving up 25.8 points and 394.8 yards per game. Quarterback Brady White has thrown for 2,511 yards and 23 touchdowns this year to lead the offense while Kenneth Gainewell has rushed for 1,067 yards and 12 scores. Damonte Coxie is the leading receiver with 44 receptions for 672 yards and five touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Houston
The Cougars have failed to cover in four straight following a bye week and in five of their last six following a cover.
Memphis
The Tigers have covered the spread in seven straight games on turf and in nine of their last 12 conference games.
Prediction:
Memphis has owned Houston in recent years, winning three straight while covering the spread in four straight against the Cougars. The Tigers are putting up big offensive numbers this year, scoring at least 42 points in six of their last eight games. Houston’s not been able to stop good offensive teams this year and I think that will continue today against the Tigers. Houston has been respectable on offense despite the roster turnover this year, but I think they will have trouble keeping pace with Memphis today, which will allow the Tigers to cover.
