Louisville Cardinals Game Notes

Louisville redshirt junior QB Malik Cunningham completed 16-of-24 passes for 350 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in a 42-35 loss to Virginia Tech on Saturday. Cunningham (6'1/200) also chipped in nine rushes for 47 yards, but his interceptions proved to be his undoing against their ACC rival. While two of those picks were inarguably his fault, one of them certainly was not. Cunningham hit Dez Fitzpatrick right in the hands on a quick hitch, but the wide receiver tried to run before securing the catch resulting in the ball popping in the air and landing right in the arms of a Virginia Tech defender. The costly miscue setup the Hokies in Cardinal territory and directly resulted in a touchdown for the Hokies. He made some big throws to claw Louisville back into the game, but it was too little, too late. Louisville will try to improve upon their 2-5 record next Saturday when they face Virginia.

Virginia Cavaliers Game Notes

Virginia redshirt sophomore QB Brennan Armstrong (undisclosed) practiced and is expected to play on Saturday against Louisville. Armstrong (6'2/220) was injured on the final drive of Virginia's 44-41 upset victory over North Carolina last Saturday. The redshirt sophomore signal caller had missed time earlier in the season with a concussion, as his willingness to run has led to some heavy collisions. His accuracy has been spotty at times but Armstrong has proven to be a strong competitor who should continue to improve. Virginia will try to find their third win of the season against Louisville this Saturday.

Louisville vs. Virginia Betting Prediction

The home team is 4-0 against the spread in the last four meetings between these two teams while the Cavaliers are 5-1 against the number in their last six home games and are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games overall. Virginia has also covered 11 of its last 14 games coming off a bye and is 9-1-2 ATS in its last 12 games after scoring more than 40 points in its previous game. The Cardinals, meanwhile, are just 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 conference games, are 4-10-1 against the spread in their last 15 road games and are 7-17-1 at the betting window in their last 25 games in the underdog role.
