Ohio State vs. Illinois Free Pick
Before facing Michigan State and Michigan in upcoming weeks, Ohio State needs to avoid tripping today in Champaign when it visits Illinois at 12:00PM ET.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Mybookie.ag, the Buckeyes opened as a 17-point favorite and that's where the line currently is now, while the total opened at 54.5 before being bet up to 55.
Ohio State enters play with a perfect 9-0 record and is currently No. 3 in the official college football playoff rankings. But the Buckeyes have killed backers at the betting window this season while failing to cover in six of their nine games this season. As for the Illini, they're 5-4 straight up and 5-4 against the spread.
The Buckeyes covered back-to-back spreads to close out their October schedule but then was nowhere close to covering as 23.5-point favorites last weekend in a 28-14 win over Minnesota. Granted, with OSU turning back to J.T. Barrett following a one-game suspension, perhaps the Buckeyes' offense will once again be formidable. But even then, Illinois is a much-improved team this season, especially on defense. If you can bet the line up to 17 or 17.5, there's plenty of value in fading an OSU team that could get caught looking ahead to games against Michigan State and Michigan over the next two weeks.
