Minnesota vs. Iowa Free Pick
On the fringe of the college football playoff, Iowa will look to stay in the postseason mix with a win tonight over Minnesota at 8:00PM ET.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Mybookie.ag, the Hawkeyes are 11-point home favorites versus the Golden Gophers after opening as an 11.5-point favorite. As for the total, it opened at 46.5 before dropping to 45.5.
While Minnesota enters play with a 4-5 record, Iowa remains unbeaten at 9-0 this season. The Golden Gophers are also 4-5 against the spread while the Hawkeyes have been a profitable 6-3 at the betting window this season.
This a perfect line. It would be too tempting to take Iowa less than double digits but 11 doesn't seem enough to back a Minnesota team that has been the ultimate crapshoot all season. Yes, the Golden Gophers nearly beat Michigan two weeks ago and covered easily against Ohio State (+23.5/28-14 loss) last weekend. But Iowa has plenty to prove now that its ranked just outside of the college football top 4 playoff ranking. (The Hawkeyes are fifth in the latest committee rankings.) Thus, the total has more value here. The under is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams and is 5-2 in Minnesota's last seven road games. Expect a low-scoring affair as both teams rely on their defense.
