Demon Deacons fall on the road
Wake Forest took a tough road loss last weekend, 36-17 at Virginia Tech. The Demon Deacons have dropped two of their last four games to fall to 7-2 on the season and 3-2 in the ACC. Wake Forest is 4-4-1 against the spread and 6-3 with the under.
Wake Forest has been pretty strong on offense this year, averaging 35.7 points and 487.3 yards per game. Defensively, Wake Forest is allowing 25.9 points and 407.8 yards per contest. Wake took a big blow this week as receiver Sage Surratt was lost for the season with a shoulder injury. Surratt has caught 66 passes for 1,001 yards and 11 touchdowns this year. Scotty Washington, who has 607 receiving yards and seven scores, is also out with an injury. That will make things tough for Jamie Newman, who has thrown for 2,297 yards and 22 touchdowns this year. Newman has also rushed for 301 yards and five scores while Cade Carney is the team’s leading rusher with 429 yards and three touchdowns.
Clemson making statements
After being left out of the initial College Football Playoffs top-4, Clemson went out and beat N.C. State on the road last week, 55-10. The Tigers have won their last five games by at least 31 points and their last three by at least 45. Clemson is 10-0 on the season, 7-0 in the ACC, 7-3 against the spread and 5-5 with the over/under total.
The Tigers are putting up 45.3 points and 545.8 yards per game on offense this season while the defense is giving up only 11.5 points and 251.5 yards per game. They rank in the top five nationally in both offense and defense. Travis Etienne is the leading rusher on the team with 1,214 yards and 13 touchdowns while Trevor Lawrence has thrown for 2,303 yards and 23 touchdowns. Tee Higgins is the team’s leading receiver with 36 catches for 735 yards and five scores, while Isaiah Simmons is leading the defense with 69 tackles, five sacks and an interception.
College Football Betting Trends
Wake Forest
Wake Forest has hit the under in seven of their last eight games in November and in five of their last six conference games.
Clemson
The Tigers have hit the under in seven of their last 10 conference games and the Tigers are 16-5-1 with the under in their last 22 home games against a team with a winning road record.
Prediction:
These two have hit the over in four of their last six meetings. Wake Forest has struggled to score on Clemson in recent years, behind held to 14 or less in four straight against the Tigers. We saw the Demon Deacons struggle on the road last week in a loss at Virginia Tech. Clemson hasn’t given up more than 14 points in their last five games and I think the Tigers will lock up Wake again this time around, especially with the Demon Deacons short-handed at receiver. The key in this game will be for Clemson to continue to put up points. The Tigers have scored at least 55 in three straight. I think they can do it in this game. Wake gave up 36 to an average Virginia Tech offense and gave up 62 to Louisville a month ago.
College Football Week 12 Prediction: Wake Forest/Clemson Over 59.5
