Toledo still in the hunt
Toledo has won its last two games over Eastern Michigan and Kent State by a combined five points to stay in the MAC title race this season. Toledo is now 6-3 overall, 3-2 in the MAC, 4-5 against the spread and 5-4 with the over.
The Rockets have put up a pretty strong offense this year, averaging 29.1 points and 450.2 yards per game. However, the Toledo defense is allowing 28.6 points and 467.9 yards per contest. Injuries are a concern right now, as quarterbacks Mithcell Guadagni and Carter Bradley are both questionable for this game due to undisclosed injuries while leading rusher Bryan Koback is questionable with a leg injury. Guadagni has been the leading passer with 1,099 yards and eight touchdowns while Koback has rushed for 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns. Bryce Mitchell is the team’s leading receiver with 22 catches for 431 yards and two touchdowns.
NIU struggling
Northern Illinois is coming off a 48-10 loss at Central Michigan back on Nov. 12. The Huskies are struggling this year, going just 3-6 on the season, 2-3 in the MAC, 5-4 against the spread and 5-4 with the over.
Usually known for defense, NIU hasn’t been nearly as strong this year. The Huskies are giving up 27.9 points and 375.1 yards per game this year. On offense, NIU is putting up 23.2 points and 364 yards per game. Ross Bowers is leading the team with 1,947 passing yards and six touchdowns, but has eight interceptions. Tre Harbison is leading the ground attack with 741 rushing yards and seven touchdowns while Cole Tucker has 32 catches for 483 yards and a score.
College Football Betting Trends
Toledo
Toledo is 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games, but just 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games following a win.
Northern Illinois
The Huskies are just 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game.
Prediction:
Toledo has won and covered the spread in two of the last three against Northern Illinois. The Huskies have been a hard team to figure out, as they have had some awful losses, but some impressive wins, including a 39-36 win at Ohio. Still, NIU has come up short in most games and its been due to a lack of offense more than defensive struggles. Toledo has some big injury concerns, but the Rockets have always found ways to score at home. They have put up at least 28 points in each home game this year and that should be enough points to win and cover tonight. I just don’t see the NIU offense traveling in this midweek primetime game.
