Spartans drop another
Michigan State is coming off a 37-34 loss at home to Illinois where the Spartans blew a 28-3 lead. MSU has now lost four straight to fall to 4-5 on the season and 2-4 in the Big Ten. The Spartans are 2-7 against the spread and 5-4 with the under.
MSU has struggled on offense, putting up just 23.1 points and 367.2 yards per game this year. Defensively, Michigan State is allowing 23.6 points and 323.9 yards per contest. Darrell Stewart Jr. is the leading receiver with 47 catches for 694 yards and four scores, but he is out with a leg injury.
Wolverines hitting their stride?
Michigan is coming off a 38-7 win at Maryland two weeks ago for a second straight win. Since the second half of its game with Penn State, Michigan has outscored its opponents 104-21. The Wolverines are 7-2 on the season, 4-2 in the Big Ten, 5-4 against the spread and 6-3 with the over.
U-M has been led by its strong defense, as the Wolverines are giving up 17.1 points and 267.6 yards per contest. Josh Uche is leading the defense with 27 tackles and 7.5 sacks. College Football Betting Trends
Michigan State is 4-1 against the spread in its last five road games and 0-5 ATS in their last five conference games.
The Wolverines are 4-1 against the spread in their last five conference games, but just 1-7 ATS in their last eight games following a bye.
The road team has actually won the last four in this series while Michigan State has covered the spread in nine of the last 10 in this series. Despite that, I like Michigan this weekend. We keep waiting for Michigan State to show that gritty fire they have had in recent seasons, yet they keep letting us down. The Spartans are a mess right now and their defense is getting beat up by bad offenses. Jim Harbaugh and Michigan smell blood in the water and know that can maybe put the final stake in Mark Dantonio’s coaching career with a blowout win at home. The Wolverines have no love lost for the Spartans and I think they will want to make a statement and continue to build on the momentum they have built the last month.
