Irish without their QB
Notre Dame is coming off a 31-21 win at Northwestern last week to move to 9-0 on the season. The Fighting Irish are 5-3-1 against the spread and 5-4 with the over. ND is just 1-1-1 against the spread over their last three games.
The Irish have been great on offense, averaging 33.7 points and 449.1 yards per game on offense. The team will be without starting quarterback Ian Book today due to a rib injury. Book has thrown for 1,824 yards and 15 touchdowns to lead the team. Brandon Wimbush will take over in his absence. Wimbush has thrown for 589 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions. Dexter Williams is the leading rusher for the team with 568 yards and eight touchdowns while Miles Boykin has 40 catches for 624 yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively, Notre Dame is giving up just 19.3 points and 331 yards per contest.
FSU falls in back-to-back games
Florida State is coming off a 47-28 loss at N.C. State last weekend for its third loss in four games. The Seminoles are now 4-5 overall, 3-6 against the spread and 6-3 with the over. FSU has failed to cover in its last two games as well.
The Seminoles haven’t been very consistent on offense this season, averaging 23.8 points and 360.1 yards per game. The Seminoles are averaging just 76 rushing yards per game. Cam Akers is the leading rusher with 496 yards and three touchdowns. Deondre Francois has thrown for 2,039 yards and 13 touchdowns with seven interceptions. Tamorrion Terry has caught 23 passes for 505 yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively, the Seminoles are giving up 30.4 points and 393.7 yards per contest.
College Football Betting Trends
Notre Dame
Notre Dame is just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven homes games and 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 home games against a team with a losing road record.
Florida State
Florida State is 5-1 against the spread in their last six non-conference games and 2-5-2 ATS in their last nine road games.
Prediction:
The loss of Book concerns me for the Irish. The Notre Dame offense wasn’t impressive under Wimbush, struggling to pull away from the likes of Michigan, Ball State and Vanderbilt. Florida State may not be a great defensive team, but the Seminoles still have talent and speed. FSU should be able to compete with this Notre Dame offense. I think the Seminoles will get enough defensive stops to make this a competitive game and stay within two scores.
