Northern Illinois vs. Toledo Spread Pick
MACtion returns Wednesday night with a pair of matchups from the MAC, including a good one between the Toledo Rockets and the Northern Illinois Huskies. Will the Rockets pull off a small upset as a 3-point road dog?

Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Huskies are 3-point favorites to beat the Rockets. The total, meanwhile, sits at 55 points. As of this writing, 64% of the public betting tickets wagered on this matchup are on the Huskies.
Toledo Rockets
Toledo junior QB Mitchell Guadagni (shoulder) is unlikely to be ready for next Saturday’s game against Northern Illinois. Toledo coach Jason Candle said Guadagni’s shoulder injury is a “wait and see” thing, and the team is prepared to move on without him for this Wednesday’s game against Northern Illinois. When Toledo took the field against Ball State last week, Eli Peters drew the start and threw for 327 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions.
Northern Illinois Huskies
Northern Illinois extended HC Rod Carey’s contract through the 2021 season. Carey’s extension fell through the cracks — on seemingly all of your typical college football news outlets — due to the fact that NIU never announced it. Thus, this is very, very old news in actuality. The extension first kicked in back in early January. Carey and his Huskies crew are sitting atop the MAC West with a 6-3 record (5-0 in conference). For his career with the program, he has built up an overall record of 50-27 (37-8 in conference).
Betting Trends
Toledo
The Rockets are 1-5 against the spread in their last six games coming off a straight up win.
Northern Illinois
The Huskies are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall but are just 1-4 against the number in their last five home games.
Prediction
The Rockets have been an excellent play in this series, going 7-2-1 at the betting window in their last 10 games played in DeKalb and 13-6-1 against the spread in their last 20 games versus the Huskies overall. The road team has also dominated this series in the past, cashing in six of the previous seven meetings. This a clash in styles as NIU has won on the strength of its defense while Toledo has survived because of its offense. I’m siding with the offense here and wouldn’t be surprised if the Rockets pulled off the small upset.
