The Odds
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Mybookie.ag, the Wolverines are 24.5-point favorites over the Scarlet Knights after opening as 24-point favorites. As for the total, it opened at 49.5 points after the number opened at 50.
The Records
Rutgers is 3-5 on the season and 3-5 against the spread, while Michigan enters play with a 6-2 record and is 4-4 at the betting window. The Scarlet Knights are also 1-2 ATS on the road this season while the Wolverines are 3-2 ATS at home.
The Pick
Rutgers is a mess offensively. Receiver Leonte Carroo leads the conference with nine touchdown catches but is questionable for today’s game due to an ankle injury suffered in last week’s loss to Wisconsin. Meanwhile, quarterback Chris Laviano has been pulled in favor of backup Hayden Rettig during each of the past two games so the Scarlet Knights have problems under center as well. That’s not a promising sign for today’s game against Michigan, which ranks second nationally in scoring defense, total defense and rushing defense. The Wolverines have had issues offensively themselves this year and will have a banged up quarterback under center in Jake Rudock, who was knocked out of last week’s win over Minnesota with a torso injury. After a loss to MSU and a near-loss to Minnesota, look for Michigan to rely on its running game and defense in this low-scoring affair.
