USC vs. ASU Pick
No. 12 USC is playing for pride on Saturday when the Trojans head to Arizona State for an 8PM ET kickoff from Sun Devil Stadium.
Bet USC at Arizona State
The Trojans are 6-2 on the year and 2-6 against the spread, but USC is coming off a 47-20 loss at Oregon, which was the Trojans worst loss since 1997. USC has had odds of nine points or more in five games this year and only covered in one of them. Both of USC’s losses come on the road, but USC has won nine-straight against the Sun Devils.
Arizona State is 4-4 on the year and 4-3 against the spread. The Sun Devils are 4-1 at home and have scored at least 17 points in each game at Sun Devil Stadium.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have made USC 10-point road favorites over Arizona State on Saturday night. The over/under total for this game has been established at 46.
The Trojans odds are lower than usual this week as they haven’t been quite playing up to USC standards as of late. Covering in just two games this year has lowered the point spreads for Trojan games.
Many may not know, but Arizona State has one of the top defenses in the Pac-10, giving up just 19 points and 296 yards per-game. The Sun Devils have given up just 641 total rushing yards in eight games. USC will look to run the ball with Joe McKnight, who has 712 yards rushing with seven touchdowns. Matt Barkley has thrown for 1,727 yards and nine touchdowns, but shown his inexperience as a true freshman with six interceptions and a 59 percent completion rate.
USC has been strong on defense, but the Trojans allowed 613 yards of offense to Oregon last week, including 391 rushing yards. Arizona State is more of a passing team, which should play into the Trojans favor. Danny Sullivan has thrown for 1,658 yards for the Sun Devils, but has seven interceptions to just eight touchdowns while completing only 54 percent of his passes.
With the odds not overwhelming for USC this week, this looks to be the game where a pick of the Trojans is a good move. The Pac-10 title may be out of reach, but USC is still a proud program that will be anxious to put a hurting on someone after getting embarrassed last week at Oregon. The Sun Devils have a formidable defense, but will get over-matched by USC. The Trojans won’t leave the game up to Barkley to win as the defense will shut down Arizona State and make things more manageable for the offense. Pick the Trojans to cover the odds and also pick the over for Saturday as trends show that five of the last seven meetings have gone over.
