Ohio Bobcats Game Notes

Ohio HC Frank Solich said earlier this week that redshirt freshman QB Kurtis Rourke and redshirt senior QB Armani Rogers are essentially "neck and neck" in the race for the starting job. While being this close to the start of a season without a clear-cut starter at the quarterback position can be an issue for some programs, that does not appear to be the case for Ohio. Both Rourke (6'3/211) and Rogers (6'5/225), a grad transfer by way of UNLV, have performed well in preseason practices and Solich sounds comfortable going with either. “Both of them have really strong pluses on their side,” Solich said on October 26. “And so both can be used. Not only throughout the course of the season, but really throughout the course of the game.” Rourke has the strongest arm of the quarterbacks on the roster, but Rogers' ability to make plays with his legs works in his favor. Don't be surprised if both play in Ohio's November 4 opener at Central Michigan.

Central Michigan Chippewas Game Notes

Central Michigan redshirt freshman QB Daniel Richardson has been named starter for the team's November 4 season opener against Ohio. HC Jim McElwain has been waiting on a ruling from the NCAA on senior David Moore's suspension due to a positive test for an NCAA banned substance on October 7, 2019. With no word on Moore's status, HC McElwain has tabbed Richardson (5'10/200) the starter in his absence. When asked about the situation, McElwain said "We're just waiting on the final report from the NCAA as far as moving forward, still haven't gotten anything there. If not, we'll go ahead with Richardson and Ty Brock." The redshirt freshman has received praise throughout camp by OC Charlie Frye and will handle the first snaps under center against Ohio unless CMU gets a last minute update on Moore from the NCAA.
