South Carolina vs. Georgia Prediction
Will newly ranked No. 1 Georgia crush South Carolina when the two teams meet "Between the Hedges" on Saturday afternoon?
ODDSMAKERS LIKE: Georgia. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Bulldogs are now 24-point home favorites to rout the Gamecocks, who opened as 21.5-point underdogs. As for the total, the number hit the board at 49 but has dropped a full four points to 45.
THE PUBLIC LIKES: South Carolina. As of Saturday morning, 58% of the tickets wagered on this SEC matchup are on the Gamecocks plus the points.
HISTORICAL TRENDS LIKE: Georgia and the over. The favorite is 6-1 against the spread in the last seven meetings between these two teams while the home squad has covered in four of the last five meetings in this series. The over, meanwhile, is 4-0 in the last four meetings and 4-0 in the last four meetings in Athens.
WHO WE LIKE: South Carolina. Georgia doesn't have any real weakness, which is one of the multitude of reasons why the college football playoff committee placed the Bulldogs No. 1 in their initial playoff rankings earlier this week. But the Dawgs are also coming off an emotional game against Florida in the "World's Greatest Outdoor Cocktail Party" and have a massive game with Auburn on deck. This is a lot of points to lay with a dominant team, but a dominant team that is no longer in the shadows of Alabama anymore. The Dawgs are expected to keep routing opponents.
South Carolina, meanwhile, is 5-0 against the spread as an underdog this season, having pulled off four outright upsets. The Gamecocks are also 8-3 against the spread the last two years against a team averaging 30 points per game or more. I don't expect SC to pull off yet another upset today in Athens but I do like taking Jake Bentley and the 'Cocks to cover.
