Key Betting Trends
The favorite is a perfect 4-0 against the spread in the last four meetings between these two teams, which happened to be Alabama in every matchup. The road team is 15-6-1 against the spread in the last 22 meetings while the under has cashed in seven of the last eight meetings.
OUR PREDICTION: Not every LSU-Alabama game is close (see last year), but these two teams often play low-scoring games no matter the venue. I'm banking on Saturday night being another low-scoring game given how stout defensively Nick Saban's team is once again this season.
The Crimson Tide leads the nation in points allowed per game at 9.8. Alabama is surrendering just 236 yards per game, which is a bad sign for LSU quarterback Danny Etling and running back Derrius Guice. 'Bama has held six of its eight opponents to their lowest offensive output on the season and their defense is ranked No. 1 in the nation, surrendering 168 yards per game below what their opponents usually average. In the last two years, the Tide has held LSU to 54 and 33 yards rushing, and that was when the Tigers featured Leonard Fournette in their backfield.
Offensively, Alabama no longer wants to spread opponents out like they did under former OC Lane Kiffin. They're back to what Saban loves: Pounding the ball on the ground and playing ball-control offense to support the suffocating defense. I don't see a shootout Saturday night in Tuscaloosa.
