Penn State edges Iowa
Penn State has won back-to-back games, beating Indiana on the road and Iowa at home last week. The Nittany Lions are now 6-2 on the season, 3-2 in the Big Ten, 5-3 against the spread and 6-2 with the over.
The Nittany Lions are having a lot of success on offense this year, putting up 41 points and 459.5 yards per game. Quarterback Trace McSorley suffered a knee injury last week that forced him to miss some of the game. He is listed as questionable for Saturday’s contest. He has thrown for 1,628 yards and 12 touchdowns this season while rushing for 617 yards and nine scores. Miles Sanders has added 834 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.
Michigan coming off bye
The Michigan Wolverines are coming off a bye last week. They have won seven straight prior to the bye, including a 21-7 win at Michigan State two weeks ago. The Wolverines are now 7-1 overall, 5-0 in the Big Ten, 5-3 against the spread and 4-4 with the over/under total. Michigan is 4-1 with the over at home.
Michigan puts out one of the best defenses in the nation. The Wolverines are giving up just 14.4 points and 220 yards per game this year. Offensively, Michigan is posting 36.0 points and 420.4 yards per game. Their run game is leading the way with 212 yards per contest. Karan Higdon has rushed for 831 yards and six touchdowns to lead the team. Quarterback Shea Patterson has thrown for 1,523 yards and 12 touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Penn State has hit the over in six straight road games and in nine of its last 11 overall.
Michigan has hit the over in nine of its last 13 games in November and in four straight at home.
Michigan has been a stellar team at home, putting up at least 38 points in every game while holding opponents to 21 or less. Penn State hasn’t been terribly impressive on defense this year, so I would expect the Wolverines to continue to score. The big question is, will Penn State be held in check on offense by the U-M defense. McSorely is a good enough player to help lead the Nittany Lions to a few scores, assuming he plays. I think the over hits, as the total is being set pretty low for a Michigan team that averages what it does at home.
