Michigan State Spartans Game Notes

Michigan State redshirt junior QB Rocky Lombardi completed 31-of-43 passes for 319 yards with three touchdowns and two INTs in a 38-27 upset loss to Rutgers on Saturday. Lombardi (6'4/225) had a pretty good statistical game, however try telling that to any Spartan fan in the wake of the 38-27 embarrassing loss to Rutgers, and you're likely to get an earful in return. Regardless, much of the reason why MSU was in the game at all had to do with the strong play of the first year starter. Michigan State tallied 23 first-downs to Rutgers' 16, and out gained RU 369 yards to 276. The difference maker in the game was the seven turnovers from MSU, including a back-breaking muffed punt late in the fourth quarter that led to Rutgers' final score. Lombardi will try to put this ugly loss behind him and focus on in-state rival Michigan next Saturday.

Michigan Wolverines Game Notes

Michigan redshirt sophomore QB Joe Milton completed 15-of-22 passes for 225 yards and one touchdown while rushing eight times for 52 yards and a score in Saturday's 49-24 win over Minnesota. This isn’t Shea Patterson, folks. From the jump, Milton (6'5"/245) looked in command of Michigan’s offense, guided by former Alabama WR coach Josh Gattis. Milton’s arm popped off the screen, proving him every bit as talented as the four-star recruit he was billed to be a couple years ago. Milton also proved helpful on the ground, churning out one of Michigan’s five rushing touchdowns. The Minnesota defense is not necessarily the best the Big Ten has to offer, but Milton looked more than capable of standing up to most of the conference and looks to have a promising future as the Wolverines QB. Michigan will face off against in-state rival Michigan State next week.
