San Diego St. vs. Utah St. Prediction
San Diego State and Utah State meet up tonight at 8PM ET. Will this Mountain West Conference battle be a defensive struggle?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, San Diego State is favored on the road, as the Aztecs are getting odds of -6 points against Utah State. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 43.5 points. San Diego State has won and covered the spread in the last two meetings with the Aggies, and the two have split the total in those two games.
Bet on San Diego State vs. Utah State
San Diego is coming off a 42-3 win over San Jose State last week to improve to 6-1 on the year and 3-0 in the Mountain West. The Aztecs have hit the under in three straight games, and are 4-3 with the under for the season. SDSU has a solid defense that is giving up just 13 total points over their last three games. They are allowing just 17.6 points and 284.6 yards per game. On offense, SDSU is averaging 32.4 points and 418.3 yards per game, including 252.7 rushing yards per contest. Donnel Pumphrey is leading the nation in rushing with 1,246 yards and 13 touchdowns. Quarterback Christian Chapman has thrown for 1,151 yards and nine touchdowns.
Utah State is coming off a 38-20 win over Fresno State last week to snap a three-game losing streak. The Aggies are now 3-4 on the season, 1-3 in the MWC and 4-3 with the under. Utah State has a physical defense as well that is holding their opponents to just 24.3 points and 359.6 yards per game, but they are giving up 151.6 rushing yards per contest. On offense, the Aggies are posting 25.4 points and 391.4 yards per contest. They rely heavily on the run as well, rushing for 177.6 yards per game. Unlike San Diego State, who uses one back heavily, Utah State goes with a team effort. Three different players have over 230 yards, led by Tonny Lindsey, who has run for 442 yards and three scores. Kent Myers has thrown for 1,485 yards and seven touchdowns.

Utah State is going to have its hands full with Pumphrey. He has run for at least 135 yards and a TD in his last six games. His ability to run the ball consistently should be able to allow the Aztects to control time of possession. Utah State has a respectable offense, but I don’t think they will be able to match the Aztecs score-for-score. I like San Diego State to keep this game low scoring.
