LA-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns Game Notes

Head coach Michael Desormeaux said that Chris Smith (lower body) is going to play Thursday at Southern Miss, Scott Prather of 103.3 The GOAT reports. Smith was sidelined for each of the team's previous two games due to a lower body issue, but it sounds like he'll be available for the Week 9 matchup versus the Golden Eagles. The 197-pounder totaled 46 carries for 262 yards and two touchdowns over the Ragin' Cajuns' first five games, and he'll likely reclaim his starting backfield spot Thursday night against Southern Miss.

Southern Miss Golden Eagles Game Notes

Zach Wilcke went 18-for-25 for 187 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions against Texas State. Wilcke has taken over as Southern Miss' starter but has taken some lumps as a freshman. He has thrown multiple interceptions in three straight games and has gone over the 200-yard mark just once in six games. Southern Mississippi takes on Louisiana on Thursday.
