Texas Tech vs. TCU Pick
Will Texas Tech and TCU light up the scoreboard Saturday afternoon at 3:30PM ET so bettors can cash the over?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Horned Frogs are now 9.5-point home favorites versus the Red Raiders after opening as a 7.5-point favorite. As for the total, the number opened at 84.5 and has been bet up a full two points to 86.5.
The Red Raiders enter play on a three-game losing streak, having fallen at Kansas State and then at home the last two weeks to West Virginia and Oklahoma, respectively. In that loss to the Sooners, Mahomes had 819 yards of total offense, which is most by a player in a game in FBS history. Mahomes also passed for 734 yards, tying Connor Halliday's FBS record and his 88 pass attempts was only one shy of the FBS record.
The Horned Frogs are coming off a loss to West Virginia by a score of 34-10, which dropped their season record to 4-3 overall. The Horned Frogs also failed to cover the spread for the third straight week and for the sixth time in their seven games. Their lone cover came at SMU on September 23 when they beat the Mustangs 33-3 as a 21.5-point favorite.
OUR PREDICTION: Even with the number inflated, the only play if you're betting the total in this game is the 'over.' The over is 10-4 in Texas Tech's last 14 conference games, is 4-1 in its lat five road games, and is 10-1 in its last 11 games versus an opponent with a winning record. The Red Raiders are averaging 50.3 points per game and are allowing 43.9. They've scored on every opponent outside of West Virginia two weeks ago and TCU doesn't boast the Mountaineers' defensive prowess, at least not this year anyway. With the Horned Frogs also averaging 35.9 points per contest and surrendering 30.6, the over should be a safe play.
