Eagles not finding consistency
Boston College has alternated wins and losses over its last five, now coming off a 38-20 win over Louisville this past weekend. The Eagles are now 5-2 on the season, 2-1 in the ACC, 5-2 against the spread and 5-2 with the over. They have covered the spread in two straight.
The Eagles are led by their defense, as they are giving up 26 points and 370.9 yards per game this season. Offensively, BC is putting up 39.6 points and 447.4 yards per game. Their ground attack is averaging 227 yards per contest. However, leading rusher AJ Dillon has missed the last two games with an ankle injury and is questionable for Friday. He has 652 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. Anthony Brown has thrown for 1,238 yards and 14 touchdowns this year, and also has four interceptions.
Miami coming off loss
Miami saw its five-game winning streak come to an end two weeks ago in a 16-13 loss at Virginia. The Hurricanes are now 5-2 on the season, 2-1 in the ACC, 3-4 against the spread and 5-2 with the over. The Canes have failed to cover in three of their last four games.
The Canes have been led this year by their defense as well, as they are allowing just 18.1 points and 237 yards per game. Their pass defense is giving up just 130.9 yards per game. On offense, Miami is scoring 37.4 points and putting up 399.4 yards per game. The Canes have been split on the QB position, but return to Malik Rosier for this game. He has thrown for 781 yards and five touchdowns this season. Travis Homer is leading the ground attack with 529 yards while Rosier has six rushing touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Boston College
Boston College has covered the spread in seven straight games in October and is 10-1-1 ATS in its last 12 conference games.
Miami
Miami is just 1-5 against the spread in its last six road games and 0-5 ATS in its last five games in October.
Prediction:
Miami has covered the spread in five of the last six against BC, but the two haven’t met since 2012. The Cans haven’t looked terribly consistent this year. They lost at Virginia and failed to cover against a struggling Florida State team. Boston College’s lone losses came against N.C. State and Purdue, and those losses look more impressive as the season plays out. I think BC can match physicality with Miami. While the Eagles may not match speed, I think they will tire the Hurricanes throughout the game and then pick up the key scores late. Boston College can win this straight up, so I will take the points at home.
