Houston trying to heat up
Houston has won two of its last three games, both on the road, following a 24-17 win at Connecticut last weekend. Houston is 3-4 on the year, 1-2 in the AAC, 3-4 against the spread and 3-3-1 with the over/under total.
The Cougars have been giving up a lot of points this season, as they are allowing 30.7 points and 470.3 yards per game. Offensively, Houston is putting up 30.9 points and 395.4 yards per contest. The Cougars have still been getting over QB D’Eriq King and WR Keith Corbin electing to take a redshirt just a few games into the season. Clayton Tune is another QB that is hurt as well, but he is expected to go tonight. Logan Holgorsen got some play last week and threw for 128 yards and a TD. He will play if Tune is unable to go. Kyle Porter has rushed for 448 yards and three touchdowns to lead the offense while Marquez Stevenson has 29 catches for 445 yards and four scores.
SMU still unbeaten
SMU remains unbeaten after an impressive 45-21 win at home over a solid Temple team this past weekend. The Mustangs are 7-0 on the year, 3-0 in the AAC, 6-1 against the spread and 7-0 with the over.
Scoring points hasn’t been a problem for SMU this season. The Mustangs are averaging 44.3 points and 521.1 yards per game this year. Shane Buechele is leading the offense with 2,122 passing yards and 18 touchdowns while Xavier Jones has 751 rushing yards and 12 scores. Reggie Roberson Jr. is the leading receiver on the team with 42 catches for 795 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, SMU is allowing 27.3 points and 370 yards per game. Patrick Nelson is leading the defense with 45 tackles, 7.5 sacks and an interception.
College Football Betting Trends
Houston
The Cougars are 0-4 ATS in their last four conference games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games against a winning team.
SMU
The Mustangs are 5-1 against the spread in their last six Thursday games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a win of more than 20 points.
Prediction:
The home team has won and covered the spread in three straight, while the Mustangs have covered in three of their last four against Houston. Both teams are coming off a short week, which means there is likely to be some ugly play tonight, but I still think the Mustangs are the play. They have been able to consistently score against any opponent and the Houston offense has some big question marks for tonight’s game. The Houston defense isn’t good enough to slow down the Mustangs consistently enough to cover.
