Bears drop third straight
California is coming off a 21-17 loss at home to Oregon State. The Golden Bears have now lost three straight after starting the season 4-0. Cal is 4-3 on the season, 1-3 in the Pac-12, 3-4 against the spread and 6-1 with the under.
The Bears have been led by their defense this year, as their offense has really struggled. Cal is giving up just 18.7 points and 359.6 yards per game, but the offense is putting up just 19.9 points and 324 yards per game. Injuries have eaten up Cal, as quarterbacks Chase Garbers and Devon Modster are both out due to injury, leaving Spencer Brasch to get the start. He has just six pass attempts this year. Christopher Brown Jr. is leading the offense with 480 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Nikko Remigio is the team’s leading receiver with 18 catches for 251 yards and a score. The defense is being led by Evan Weaver, who has 104 tackles with 2.5 sacks.
Utah rolling along
The Utah Utes are coming off a 21-3 win at home over Arizona State last weekend for a third straight victory. Utah is now 6-1 on the season, 3-1 in the Pac-12 Conference, 4-3 against the spread and 6-1 with the under.
Utah has one of the best defenses in the nation, allowing just 11.7 points and 252.1 yards per game. Offensively, Utah is averaging 32.9 points and 449.4 yards per game. Tyler Huntley has thrown for 1,564 yards and nine touchdowns, while also rushing for 229 yards and three scores. Zack Moss has rushed for 613 yards and eight touchdowns while Bryan Thompson has 12 catches for 324 yards and two touchdowns. The defense is being led by Devin Lloyd, who has 50 tackles with three sacks and an interception.
College Football Betting Trends
California
The Golden Bears have hit the under in 10 of their last 11 road games and in 13 of their last 16 conference games.
Utah
The Utes have hit the under in five straight games overall and in six straight conference games.
Prediction:
These two have hit the under in three of their last four meetings and I think it can hit again this week despite I being so low. The Bears don’t have an offense to rely on in this game, as they don’t have a QB that can make plays going up against a great defense. However, the Cal defense still is very good and should be able to put up a fight against a Utah offense that isn’t overwhelming. The Utes could potentially get a shutout here and I don’t see the Utes putting up much more than 28.
College Football Week 9 Prediction: California/Utah Under 37.5
