Ohio St. vs. Penn St. Pick

Will Ohio State struggle to cover a 19.5-point spread against Penn State?

Is No. 2 Ohio State going to be able to get back to covering the spread this week when it goes on the road to face Penn State on Saturday at 8PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Ohio State is the clear favorite on the road, as the Buckeyes are getting odds of -19.5 points against the Buckeyes. The over/under total for the game is listed at 58.5 points. Ohio State has won four straight meetings with Ohio State and the Buckeyes are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven meetings with the Nittany Lions.

Bet on Ohio State vs. Penn State

Ohio State survived its toughest test to date last week when the Buckeyes won at Wisconsin, 30-23 in OT. That improved Ohio State to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes are now 4-2 against the spread, but have failed to cover in their last two games. Ohio State looks to have the complete package. The defense is holding opponents to just 12.8 points and 280.3 yards per game. Offensively, the Buckeyes are putting up 49.3 points and 516.5 yards per game, including 300.5 rushing yards per contest. Currently three different Buckeyes have run for 434 yards or more, including J.T. Barrett. The starting QB has 434 rushing yards with six touchdowns to go with 1,207 passing yards and 16 scores. Curtis Samuel has run for 456 yards and has 403 receiving yards to go with six total touchdowns.

Penn State is coming off a 38-14 win against Maryland two weeks ago. The Nittany Lions have won two straight to get to 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in the Big Ten. However, PSU is just 2-3-1 against the spread. The Nittany Lions are averaging 30.5 points and 391.5 yards per game while allowing 28.5 points and 381.5 yards per contest. Trace McSorley has thrown for 1,436 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the offense while Saquon Barkley has run for 582 yards and eight touchdowns.

Ohio State has a lot to think about this season in terms of what its goals are. For this week, my guess is the focus is on one score. 49-10. That is what Michigan beat Penn State by in Ann Arbor about four weeks ago. The Wolverines seemed to try and outdo Ohio State a few weeks ago with a 78-0 win over Rutgers when Ohio State beat the Knights 58-0 the week before. Despite have some challenges in Big Ten play so far, Ohio State should be able to impose its will on Penn State and I suspect the Buckeyes will look to send a message back to the Wolverines.
