BYU on three-game losing streak
The BYU Cougars are riding a three-game losing streak right now following a 27-23 loss at South Florida last weekend. BYU is 2-4 on the year, 2-4 against the spread and 3-2-1 with the under.
BYU is on the bottom half of the country on both offense and defense this year. The Cougars are averaging 22.3 points and 386.5 yards per game on offense, while the defense is allowing 30.5 points and 413 yards per contest. The Cougars are beat up at QB, as Zach Wilson is out until December with a thumb injury while Jaren Hall is dealing with a concussion. Hall is listed as probable to play tonight. He has thrown for 206 yards and a touchdown. The Cougars have also lost leading rusher Ty’Son Williams for the season due to a knee injury. He had 264 yards and three touchdowns. Aleva Hifo is the leading receiver with 23 catches for 303 yards and two scores.
Boise State stays unbeaten
Boise State is off to a 6-0 start to the season following a 59-37 win over Hawaii last weekend at home. The Broncos are 4-1-1 against the spread this season while going 3-3 with the over/under total.
The Broncos have been solid on both sides of the ball this year. They are averaging 37 points and 488.2 yards per game on offense while giving up just 19.5 points and 327.7 yards per contest. Freshman Hank Bachmeier has thrown for 1,547 yards and nine touchdowns to lead the offense, but he suffered a hip injury in last week’s game that has him questionable to play tonight. Chase Cord will play if he can’t. Cord has 295 passing yards and six touchdowns this year. John Hightower is the leading receiver with 24 catches for 444 yards and five touchdowns while Robert Mahone has 375 rushing yards and five scores. The defense has been led by Curtis Weaver, who has 26 tackles and nine sacks.
College Football Betting Trends
BYU
The Cougars are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven against Mountain West opponents, but just 2-6 ATS in their last eight games in October.
Boise State
The Broncos are 6-0-2 against the spread in their last eight against a losing team and 5-0 ATS in their last five road games against a team with a losing home record.
Prediction:
Boise State has won three straight in this series, but BYU has managed to cover in three of the last four. I think this game will be somewhat low-scoring, but that is just because Boise State could be using a backup QB. The BYU defense isn’t what it usually is, so I think the Broncos can establish a steady run game. I do think the Cougars are going to struggle to move the ball much on this Boise State defense. They had just 19 against Washington and 23 last week at USF. The Broncos won’t need many points to cover this spread, so I think they will be good to cover.
