Vanderbilt Commodores
Vanderbilt senior QB Kyle Shurmur completed just 18-of-36 passes for 229 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in a 37-27 loss on Saturday to Florida. Shurmur posted his second consecutive game with a 50 percent completion rate and wasn’t at his best. Albeit against two fairly tough defenses in Georgia and Florida, Shurmur wasn’t very accurate in either outing. His touchdown throws were from one, and 17 yards out. His schedule lightens up slightly from here on out, but there aren’t any cupcake games in the SEC unless you are Alabama. Shurmur will look to rebound next week on the road against No. 18 Kentucky.
Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky junior RB Benny Snell rushed for 60 yards on 13 carries in Saturday’s 20-16 overtime loss to Texas A&M. On a 3rd and two in overtime, Kentucky opted to not give the ball to Heisman hopeful Benny Snell (5’11/223) which resulted in a sack, a missed field goal attempt, and ultimately a loss. Snell has been a workhorse all year long, but he was given a season-low 13 carries that led to a season-low 60 rushing yards tonight. Of course, Snell was effective on his carries (4.6 YPC) as he’s been all year long. Kentucky is still a quality team, but it was disappointing that they lost a game they could have won. Snell and the Wildcats get Vanderbilt on October 20th after this week’s bye.
