Georgia Bulldogs Game Notes
Georgia redshirt junior QB Stetson Bennett completed 16-of-27 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday’s 44-21 win over Tennessee. Because Georgia’s defense is so good, it doesn’t need a star quarterback to beat teams of Tennessee’s caliber. Bennett is no star, but he managed the offense effectively and didn’t turn the ball over. Early on, the lack of offensive explosion may have frustrated Bulldogs fans, as Georgia went into halftime trailing 21-17 after Tennessee’s goal-line stand at the end of the second quarter. But Bennett was efficient in the second half and the defense put on a show, with the Bulldogs outscoring the Vols 27-0 after halftime. Nicknamed Mailman, Bennett will likely draw the start next week in a huge matchup against Alabama. But Kirby Smith probably won’t hesitate to put in JT Daniels if Bennett struggles
Alabama Crimson Tide Game Notes
Alabama HC Nick Saban tested negative for COVID-19 on Thursday. In a press release from the University of Alabama, the school revealed HC Saban continues to be asymptomatic and that an outside lab used by the SEC to supplement the conference’s testing capacity reported the initial positive test result. The latest test administered on Thursday was conducted by an SEC appointed lab and was negative. Per SEC rules, if Saban were to test negative three times in a row with 24 hours between each test, then the initial test would be considered a false positive and he would be allowed to return to the team. We will keep a close eye on this situation as it develops, as Saban will be cleared to coach Alabama against third-ranked Georgia this Saturday with two more negative tests.
