According to the latest oddsmakers, Pittsburgh is favored on the road, as the Panthers are getting odds of -3.5 points against Syracuse. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 51.5 points. The public betting currently has 60 percent going on Syracuse as the home underdog. Pitt on a win streak
Pittsburgh is riding a three-game win streak right now following a 33-30 victory at Duke two weeks ago. The Panthers are now 4-2 on the season, 1-1 in the ACC, 4-2 against the spread and 4-2 with the under.
The Panthers have been led by their defense this year, allowing 22.5 points and 298.7 yards per game. Offensively, Pittsburgh is putting up 21.5 points and 393.2 yards per game. Kenny Pickett is leading the team with 1,370 passing yards and six touchdowns, but also has four interceptions. Taysir Mack is his leading receiver with 41 catches for 511 yards and two touchdowns. Todd Sibley Jr. is the leading rusher with just 192 yards. The defensive unit is led by Paris Ford, who has 45 tackles and two interceptions.
Syracuse coming off loss
The Orange are coming off a 16-10 loss at N.C. State last weekend to snap a two-game win streak. Syracuse is 3-3 on the season, 0-2 in the ACC, 2-4 against the spread and 4-2 with the under.
Syracuse has been struggling on both sides of the ball. The Orange are putting up 25.5 points and 378.3 yards per game while the defense is giving up 26 points and 425.8 yards per outing. Tommy DeVito has played pretty well for the Cuse, throwing for 1,534 yards and 12 touchdowns with five interceptions. However, he has been sacked 26 times. Moe Neal is the leading rusher with 348 yards and three touchdowns while Trishton Jackson has 33 catches for 499 yards and six touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Panthers are 12-2 with the under in their last 14 road games and 23-9-1 with the under in their last 33 games overall.
Syracuse
The Orange are 5-2 with the under in their last seven games overall and 14-6-1 with the under in their last 21 home games.
Prediction:
These two have hit the under in five of their last seven meetings, including four straight meetings in Syracuse. The Orange have struggled offensively more times than not, but Pittsburgh is also a puzzling defense. They gave up 30 to Duke in their last outing on the road, yet held Penn State to just 17 points. Their offense also appears to plateau at 35 points. Look for that number to be even less on the road. Pitt will need its defense to win on Friday, so I look for the Panthers to hold back Syracuse and keep this score low.
College Football Week 8 Prediction: Pittsburgh/Syracuse Under 51.5
