So. Carolina vs. Tennessee Prediction
Is South Carolina a great underdog play for bettors on Saturday when the Gamecocks visit Tennessee at 12:00PM ET?
THE ODDS: According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Volunteers are 3-point home favorites versus the Gamecocks, who opened as 2-point underdogs. As for the total, the number hit the board at 49 but has been bet down to 47.5.
SOUTH CAROLINA: Following their win over Arkansas last week, Gamecocks head coach Will Muschamp was preaching one thing this week as his team prepares for a struggling Tennessee squad.
“Consistency in your performance,” Muschamp said. “… That’s not something we’ve done necessarily as a team. … Consistency is very important, to have the type of program we want to have.”
TENNESEE: The big news out of Knoxville this week is that the Vols have a new starting quarterback. Tennessee redshirt freshman quarterback Jarrett Guarantano has been named the Vols’ new starting quarterback, according to a report from SEC Country’s Mike Griffith. Guarantano’s first career start will be against the Gamecocks on Saturday.
WHO COVERS: As Griffith noted in his report on Tennessee's quarterback situation, the now-benched Quinten Dormady committed eight turnovers in the past three games for the Vols, so Butch Jones had no choice but to make a change at quarterback. That doesn't mean, however, that the Vols' issues on offense have been solved. The unit has no continuity. The Vols have mixed and matched offensive lines since Jones has been head coach, using four different starting combinations through five games this season. Now Tennessee is changing its quarterback.
The underdog is 5-0 against the spread in the last five meetings between these two teams and the road squad is 14-5-1 at the betting window in the last 20 meetings. I don't think one bye week fixed all of Tennessee's issues and I love the dog here.
