Florida’s Grier suspended
All was going well for unbeaten Florida in 2015, but that all changed on Monday as starting QB Will Grier was suspended for a year for violating NCAA rules.
According to ESPN, which is quoting sources close to the situation, Grier tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. That carries a suspension of one calendar year from the NCAA. According to Grier, he took an over the counter substance that wasn’t approved by Florida trainers and that led to the failed test. The school is planning on appealing the suspension.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Florida is now listed with 30/1 odds to win the College Football Playoffs this season. Ohio State is still the favorite with 11/4 odds while Baylor has 13/2 odds and LSU has 8/1 odds.
Grier has had a great season for Florida, throwing for 1,204 yards and 10 touchdowns with just three interceptions. He also has over 100 rushing yards with two scores. He has been very strong over the last three games, the biggest wins for Florida, where he has thrown for over 200 yards in each game and has a combined six touchdowns with just one interception. Grier has led Florida to a 6-0 record overall and 4-0 mark in the SEC. Florida is currently ranked No. 8 in the AP top 25. Treon Harris is likely to start in Grier’s place. He has 269 passing yards and two touchdowns this season and he had 1,019 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions in 2014.
