Texas picking up steam
Texas is coming off a 42-31 win at West Virginia last weekend for a third straight victory. The Longhorns are 4-1 on the season, 2-0 in the Big 12, 3-2 against the spread and 4-1 with the over.
The Longhorns have been great offensively this year, but have struggled on defense. Texas is giving up 26.6 points and 441.8 yards per game. Offensively, Texas is putting up 41.8 points and 485.2 yards per contest. Sam Ehlinger has thrown for 1,448 yards and 17 touchdowns to lead the offense while rushing for 236 yards and three touchdowns. Keaontay Ingram is the team’s leading rusher with 313 yards and three touchdowns while Devin Duvernay is the leading receiver with 45 catches for 463 yards and four scores.
Oklahoma stays unbeaten
Oklahoma is coming off a 45-20 win at Kansas last weekend. The Sooners improved to 5-0 with the win and they are 2-0 in the Big 12. Oklahoma is 3-2 against the spread this year while going 2-2-1 with the over/under total.
The Sooners have the nation’s top offense in terms of yards, as they average 643.8 yards and 53.4 points per game. They rank fifth nationally in both passing and rushing. Jalen Hurts is having a Heisman-like season. He has thrown for 1,523 yards and 14 touchdowns while rushing for 499 yards and seven scores. Trey Sermon and Rhamondre Stevenson have combined for 664 rushing yards and nine scores while CeeDee Lamb is the leading receiver with 18 catches for 439 yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively, Oklahoma is allowing just 19 points and 348.2 yards per game.
College Football Betting Trends
Texas
The Longhorns are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games on a neutral field and 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine games in October.
Oklahoma
The Sooners are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games on a neutral field, but 3-0-1 ATS in their last four against a winning team.
Prediction:
While Oklahoma won and covered in its last meeting with Texas, that was the Big 12 Championship. The Red River Showdown has been good to the Longhorns as of late. Texas has covered the spread in six straight at the Cotton Bowl, winning two of those meetings. Both teams have explosive offenses, but the Sooners aren’t as battle-tested as Texas. The Longhorns have already battled with LSU this year and got into a shootout where they kept pace. Oklahoma may not quite have the flawless execution on offense against its toughest opponent to date, which could rattle the Sooners a little. I like Texas to keep right with the Sooners and keep this game tight.
